Does Cold Weather Make You Sick or Germs?

It is a known fact that many health problems increase in cold weather. We blame the cold weather for this situation. But we should know that cold weather alone is not the cause of illness. Preference for indoor spaces in cold weather and dry weather, which causes viruses to spread easily, make our children sick. As long as you take precautions, you can easily take your children outside in cold weather.

The upper respiratory tract starts from the nose to the entrance of the chest. Common upper respiratory diseases include colds, flu, flu, ear and nose infections, sinus and pharyngeal infections, tracheitis and tonsillitis. Even healthy children can have 6-8 upper respiratory tract infections per year. Upper respiratory tract diseases, which vary according to the seasons, are generally more common in spring, fall and winter due to the increased rate of germs in the air and people spending more time indoors.

It is possible to protect your children from upper respiratory tract infections with simple precautions. First of all, when your child has a fever, do not start antibiotic treatment unnecessarily without consulting a specialist. Too much vitamin C will not protect your child. It is therefore a good idea to give your child enough vitamins, fruits and vegetables. Keep your children away from closed and crowded environments as much as possible. Breast milk protects the child from many diseases such as otitis media and upper respiratory tract infections. If possible, feed your baby only breast milk for the first 6 months. Do not smoke or allow smoking in the presence of your child.

Updated: May 30, 2022, 17:26

This content has been published with the approval of Atakent Health Group Medical Editorial Board.
