Tuberculosis Involves Many Organs Besides Lungs

"Tuberculosis", which occurs when a microbe called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis enters the body and starts to multiply for various reasons, is a disease that can occur in all organs, especially the lungs. In developed countries it occurs at older ages, while in developing countries it occurs at younger ages. The disease is divided into two different types: 'Pulmonary Tuberculosis' and 'Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis'.

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis can involve the pleura, lymph nodes, digestive system and organs, peritoneum, kidneys, bladder, genital organs, brain and central nervous system, bones, joints and spine - in short, every system and organ in the body. The most prominent signs of the disease are high fever, night sweats, weakness and weight loss.

Treatment for tuberculosis varies depending on the organ affected by the disease. In our country, medicines used in tuberculosis are given to patients free of charge by Tuberculosis Dispensaries. Symptoms of the disease begin to subside soon after the start of treatment. The important point here is that the patient takes the medication on time, without interruption and without interruption, as recommended by the specialist. The duration of treatment varies from 6 to 18 months depending on the organ involved. During this period, it is very important for the patient to take his/her medication completely in terms of contagiousness and treatment.

Updated:Jun 6, 2022, 16:20

This content has been published with the approval of Atakent Health Group Medical Editorial Board.
